It's not even close to the same situation with doom 3. Doom 3 is great on the og xbox and is still very playable and fun.
The 360 version of Half-Life 2 looks just as good as the PC version if not better because they added HD lighting. I don't know what else there is you need to know. Ep.1 looks great, Ep.2 looks amazing. The Xbox version way back in November of '04 was garbage. This 360 version was worked on from the ground up. I'm pretty sure of that.

Anyway, Valve did a half-ass job with porting the game to the Xbox - with jerky frame rate and godawful textures on the characters. Halo-2, Riddick and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory crap all over the character models of Half-Life 2 on the Xbox. Valve should have created a native version of the game on the 360 as the Xbox cannot handle the game.
